A dental X-ray allows Dr. Ledbetter to see detailed images of specific areas of your mouth. Among the various types of X-rays available, we offer the following to ensure optimal care for our patients:

  • Bitewing. This type of X-ray allows Dr. Ledbetter to see the clinical crowns of the upper and lower teeth. During a bitewing X-ray, you will bite down on the X-ray film holder while the X-ray images are being taken.
  • Periapical. This type of X-ray allows Dr. Ledbetter to see the clinical crown and roots of a particular tooth and the surrounding bone.
  • Panoramic. This type of X-ray gives Dr. Ledbetter a broad view of the entire mouth, sinus, and both jawbones. This X-ray is particularly useful in identifying cysts, tumors, or cancers.

For patients visiting our office regularly for routine check-ups, we generally take bite-wing X-rays once a year, periapicals as indicated, and panoramics every 3 to 5 years.
